The Explorer's Road consist of self-driving itineraries along the East Coast of England, from London to Northumberland via the A1 corridor, which uncover fascinating stories from England’s past.

The routes explore the county’s historic towns of Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle, showcasing world-class attractions including The Bowes Museum, The Auckland Project, Beamish Museum and Raby Castle.

The Explorer’s Road allows product to be booked by independent travellers and work with the travel trade, focusing on German visitors.

Touring is a familiar German holiday choice. The Explorer’s Road presents an English version that aims to satisfy the German fascination with English people and culture. It offers relaxation and the opportunity to unwind alongside in-depth exploration to visitors who are higher spenders and have more flexibility to travel year-round and vary the duration of their trip.

A business support toolkit has been created, along with English and German literature and translated copy for Bishop Auckland and Barnard Castle, so that you can use the Explorer’s Road in your own marketing activity.
