National Destination Marketing Campaign
Following the success of the Memorable Moments national destination marketing campaign, which ran from October 2022 to April 2023, an exciting new campaign theme for the county is currently in development, to drive visits from this autumn.
Consumer insights are being used to develop the campaign that will tap in to how our target markets are feeling, what they are interested in, and what would inspire them to choose Durham.
Staycations continue to be a strong consumer trend, and to ensure Durham captures as much of this key market as possible, Visit County Durham delivers an annual marketing campaign utilising digital marketing channels including social media, e-newsletters and blogs, as well as media and influencer activity, which drives traffic to a dedicated content hub on thisisdurham.com.

To promote the full breadth of the county’s tourism offer, provide a promotional platform for businesses, and to tap into consumer trends, Visit County Durham delivers monthly campaigns which focus on specific themes. Explore From Your Door
Targeting residents of the region, this digital campaign encourages consumers to rediscover where they live. Tapping in to the ‘Local Allure’ trend, which also sees a renewed sense of community result in people wanting to support their local businesses, Explore From Your Door highlights lesser known attractions, walking and cycling routes, beauty spots and picnic sites. The activity is also underpinned by Countryside Code messaging, to ensure people are enjoying Durham’s great outdoors safely and responsibly. As part of the activity, a weekly Explore From Your Door feature is broadcast on Durham OnAir.
