  • 15.77 million people visited in 2021, up 38.5% on 2020
  • Overall visitor expenditure was £826.68 million, up by 63.1% on 2020      
  • The number of  FTE jobs supported by tourism is 10,063, up by 48.1% on 2020

Performance in Durham City

  • 3.32 million people visited in 2021, up by 39.7% on 2020
  • Overall visitor expenditure was at £184.34 million, up by 56.7% on 2020 
  • The number of FTE jobs supported by tourism is 2,149, up by 41.1% on 2020

Performance in the Durham Coast

  • 2.6 million people visited in 2021, up by 37.4% on 2020
  • Overall visitor expenditure was at £122.54 million, up by 57.9% on 2020 
  • The number of FTE jobs supported by tourism is 1,383, up by 44.4% on 2020

Performance in the Durham Dales

  • 2.14 million people visited in 2021, up by 40.1% on 2020               
  • Overall visitor expenditure was at £171.08 million, up by 78.4% on 2020 
  • The number of FTE jobs supported by tourism is 2.343, up by 57.3% on 2020

Performance in the Vale of Durham

  • 7.71 million people visited in 2021, up by 37.9% on 2020               
  • Overall visitor expenditure was at £348.70 million, up by 61.8% on 2020 
  • The number of FTE jobs supported by tourism is 4,189, up by 48.3% on 2020
