Summer Garden Party success at South Causey Inn
Over one hundred partners gathered at the South Causey Inn on Tuesday (1 July) to enjoy an evening of networking during the Visit County Durham Summer Garden Party.
The annual event is seen as a highlight in the calendar as is a great opportunity to meet with contacts old and new.
Members of the county's tourism industry also came together to hear the announcement of the 2025 Durham Tourism Superstar winner.
86-year-old Jimmy Nicol was crowned the winner in recognition for his role as a volunteer at Raby Castle.
He works as a Room Steward, meeting and greeting visitors and sharing his vast knowledge about the Castle.
After securing the most public votes in the annual competition Jimmy will now go forward as Visit County Durham’s nomination for the VisitEngland National Tourism Superstar contest.
Jimmy was one of five finalists who were nominated for their commitment to the organisations they represent. Along with Jimmy the shortlisted finalists were Andrew Ross from Walking with the Ghosts of Durham, Glynn Hodgson from High Farm Holiday Park, Tom Allen from Locomotion and Julie Maycock from Beamish Hall.
Michelle Gorman, managing director, Visit County Durham said: “The Summer Garden Party is an excellent opportunity for partners from across the tourism industry to come together, catch up and enjoy one another's company. Meeting face-to-face in a social setting gives people the chance to exchange ideas and updates as well as being able to take some time to relax and enjoy the event.”
