Visit County Durham looks forward to working in partnership with Experience North East England (formerly NewcastleGateshead Initiative), and continuing to play a leading role in the development of the county and wider region’s visitor economy. The region has a long-standing tradition of coming together to achieve great things, and with this new approach we can address region-wide opportunities in an effective way.

Experience North East England mission is to unlock growth by promoting the region as a sustainable world-class place to visit, meet and invest. With £7m in new funding from the North East Mayoral Strategic Authority, the agency will work alongside Visit County Durham, Visit Northumberland, and NewcastleGateshead Local Visitor Economy Partnerships (LVEPs), all seven local authorities in the region and Newcastle International Airport on shared priorities to grow the region’s visitor economy.

Successful destinations and strong brands will raise the entire region, and in our 20^th anniversary year, Visit County Durham, the accredited Local Visitor Economy Partnership for the county, will continue to build on our success, shaping and supporting the visitor economy and delivering for our businesses.

County Durham is one of the North East England’s leading destinations, with a compelling story to tell. Our national and international profile and appeal is driven through UNESCO World Heritage designation, a world-class University, museums and galleries with internationally significant collections, high quality accommodation, outstanding landscapes and experiences, to name but a few. The county welcomes the highest visitor numbers in the North East and is home to the region’s most visited paid and free attractions; working collaboratively we can harness this success to help raise the profile and prosperity of the wider region.

We will work to ensure our delivery at destination level supports the region’s objectives and helps to deliver on the Mayor’s ambition for growth, whilst continuing to develop the right environment for our businesses to thrive, our communities to benefit from opportunities, and our residents to feel pride in the place they call home.
