Derwent Fest returns with support for local homeless charity

Publication Date: 01st Jul 2025

Derwent Waterside Park, near Consett in County Durham, will come to life with tunes, tributes and twilight skies on 15-16 August with the return of Derwent Fest.  Headlined by Sam Fender tribute - Sam OfFender, an unmissable line-up will transport festival-goers through the decades.

Partnering with the event is regional homelessness charity, Emmaus North East. Raising money by selling pre-loved festival fashion, they’ll also host a series of games and activities giving festival-goers the chance to learn more about their work whilst having fun.

Head quartered in South Shields, Emmaus North East provides long-term and meaningful support for those experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. They recently expanded their operation into County Durham by securing a County Council contract to increase supported housing opportunities and reduce instances of rough sleeping.

The charity’s CEO, Ruth Parker, said: “We’re excited to partner with Derwent Fest. Emmaus North East has just embarked on the delivery of a new programme that will directly support those at risk of homelessness across County Durham. We’re keen to introduce ourselves to local communities and help them understand more about our work. Being part of the fun at Derwent Fest is a great way to build those community connections.”

Derwent Fest is organised by Northumbrian Water as part of their offer at Waterside Parks and reservoirs.

Graham Perry, Strategy & Product Development Manager at Northumbrian Water said: “Derwent Fest has built a strong foundation in the last four years, attracting attendees from across the region, and establishing itself as a must-attend summer event for local people and visitors. Our focus at Waterside Parks is always to enhance the experience for people who use our sites for leisure and relaxation. We’re incredibly proud to be extending this positive impact and experience by working with Emmaus North East who make such a difference to individuals and communities across County Durham and the wider North East region.”

The festival takes place over two days and provides both single day and two-day tickets with camping available onsite. On Friday, attendees will dance back in time with a specially curated line-up performing hits from across the decades. Saturday brings top tribute acts to the stage, delivering nostalgia and fun to the event.
