Publication Date: 09th Mar 2026

Durham has once again been shortlisted in the Group Leisure & Travel Awards, with the destination named as a finalist for Best UK Destination 2026.

The shortlist marks the second consecutive year Durham has been recognised in the prestigious national awards, which celebrate the best destinations, attractions and experiences for group travel across the UK.

Alongside the destination nomination, two of the county’s leading attractions have also been shortlisted for a second consecutive time. Beamish, The Living Museum of the North is a finalist for Best UK Attraction, while the spectacular open-air show Kynren- An Epic Tale of England has been nominated for Best Event for Groups.

Organised by Group Leisure & Travel magazine, the awards are voted for by readers including group travel organisers, coach operators and tour planners, recognising destinations that provide outstanding experiences for group visitors.

The nominations highlight the strength of Durham’s group travel offer, with its mix of historic  city, towns and villages, world-class attractions, cultural experiences and scenic landscapes making it an increasingly popular choice for organised trips and coach tours.

Michelle Gorman, Managing Director at Visit County Durham, said:

“We are delighted that Durham has once again been shortlisted in the Group Leisure & Travel Awards. Being recognised for a second year in a row is a fantastic achievement and reflects the continued strength of the county’s visitor offer.

Group travel is an important part of our visitor economy, encouraging groups to stay longer and explore more.  We work closely with attractions, accommodation providers and transport partners to ensure Durham offers memorable experiences for tour organisers and group visitors.  It is also wonderful to see Beamish and Kynren recognised alongside the destination, highlighting the quality and variety of experiences available across the county.”

The winners of the Group Leisure & Travel Awards 2026 will be announced at a ceremony in London later this year.
