Durham food and drink producers given the chance to showcase their goods in Westminster
Food and drink producers from across the county are being offered a unique opportunity to take centre stage in Westminster in January, thanks to an exciting new initiative from North East rail operator Lumo.
In celebration of British Food Fortnight, Lumo is partnering with Food & Drink North East to bring together some of the region’s most talented local suppliers for a special showcase event in the capital. This is a rare chance for small and independent businesses to introduce their products to new audiences, grow their brand, and gain valuable insights into expanding into national markets.
Lumo is calling on Durham-based businesses to put themselves forward by contacting Food & Drink North East with a brief explanation of why they would like to take part. Whether you are known for artisan cheeses, small-batch spirits, handmade chocolates or locally brewed drinks, this is your chance to be part of a platform that celebrates the best of the region.
The event has already gained strong support from across the North East with backing from The North East Chamber of Commerce. Rhiannon Bearne, Deputy Chief Executive, The North East Chamber of Commerce said: “It is a fantastic way to shine a light on the talent within the region’s thriving food and drink scene — and to connect those businesses with growth opportunities and wider audiences.
Richard Salkeld, Head of Communications and Partnerships at Lumo, said: “We are thrilled to launch this unique opportunity during the annual British Food Fortnight. It’s an exciting time for Lumo at the moment, as we prepare to launch a range of new routes across the UK. We’re proud to bring the spirit of the North East to the rest of the UK and, as part of that, we’re always looking for ways that we can support other local businesses.
Several well-known producers are already confirmed, including Ad Gefrin Distillery, Davenport’s Chocolates, Doddington Dairy, Hummingbird Drinks, and Northumberland Coffee. Organisers are now keen to see more Durham-based businesses join the lineup.
Michelle Gorman, managing director, Visit County Durham said: “This is a unique and exciting opportunity for local producers to showcase their food and drink at the heart of the capital and tell their stories. It is a launchpad for growth, connection, and visibility and I would encourage everyone in the food and beverage industry in the county to take part.”
