Members of the Visit County Durham team headed south last week to fly the flag for Durham at The Great Yorkshire Show.

The annual four-day event is a highlight in the agricultural diary attracting 140,000 visitors, the show is an excellent opportunity to promote Durham as Yorkshire represents a target market for the county.

Also flying the flag for the county and joining us on the Durham stand were Lumley Castle, Kynren, Durham Cathedral, Raby Estates and The Bowes Museum.

The 166th show got underway on Tuesday, July 8 with visitors travelling from as far away as New Zealand to show their animals and agricultural skills in one of the industry’s most prestigious showcases.

Michelle Gorman, managing director at Visit County Durham said: ‘The Great Yorkshire Show is always a fantastic event, and it is a great opportunity for us to represent Durham. The team worked hard to inform those attending the show about the great visitor offer we have, encouraging them to visit Durham and stay in the county. It was really encouraging to hear the positive feedback we received from people at the show.’

Jane Naper, Revenue Manger, Lumley Castle Hotel said: ‘As a Visit County Durham partner it was great to get the opportunity to exhibit our incredible venue at the Great Yorkshire Show. It was a chance to engage directly with the public, and fellow VCD partners. Attending events like this brings enormous benefits. It allows us to share resources, exchange knowledge, and amplify our collective passion for County Durham.
