Publication Date: 11th Jun 2025

Visit County Durham has once again teamed up with The Barmy Army to showcase Durham as a holiday destination to cricket fans.

Continuing the successful partnership which began during the Cricket World Cup in 2019, Visit County Durham is delighted to be working with the England cricket team’s supporter club to maximise the benefit to the county of the two international matches taking place in Chester-le-Street this year.

On Friday 6 June, England Men took on the West Indies at the Banks Homes Riverside ground in Chester-le-Street. And on Tuesday 22, July England Women will play India at the same venue.

Thousands of fans from across the country and beyond will be in attendance, creating a fantastic opportunity to encourage visitors to extend their visit into a short break.

The Barmy Army’s highly engaged marketing channels present an effective way of promoting these opportunities ahead of the matches, alongside Visit County Durham’s own consumer channels, This is Durham. Activity will also encourage visitors to return and explore more of the county at a later date.

Michelle Gorman, managing director of Visit County Durham, said: “Hosting international cricket matches in Durham is something we are incredibly proud of. These games are televised across the world and attract thousands of cricket fans into the county. By joining forces with The Barmy Army, we can connect with these fans and promote Durham as a fantastic short break destination now and in the future, as well as a great place to live, work and invest.”

Adam Canning, Commercial and  Operations Director at The Barmy Army added: "We were thrilled to once again partner with Visit County Durham in the build-up to the first T20 between England and the West Indies. Having worked closely with Visit County Durham on several occasions before, we have seen first-hand their commitment and dedication to showcasing their incredible county.

"Our most recent partnership with Visit County Durham allowed us to provide our members and followers with key information before, during and after England's game at the Banks Homes Riverside stadium. From things to do and places to eat, to historic landmarks and travel details, it was incredibly valuable for our cricket community.

"We are dedicated to promoting places across the world where England are playing, and it was a pleasure to work with Visit County Durham to do exactly that this summer."
