Visit County Durham Consumer Sentiment Survey

In order to ascertain current consumer sentiment and obtain vital information to inform Visit County Durham’s work and support partners to plan as they prepare to welcome back visitors, an online survey was undertaken.

The Consumer Sentiment Survey, which was sent to over 43,000 contacts, aimed to understand the demand for domestic short breaks and holidays to the county over the next 18 months, as well as what factors consumers will consider as important when choosing a destination.

Key findings include:

  • 63% of respondents anticipate taking more UK trips than usual - providing supporting evidence for the anticipated staycation boom
  • open spaces, crowd free beauty spots and Covid-safe businesses are deemed of high importance when choosing a destination - positive for Durham which can satisfy all three points
  • over a quarter of respondents stated their holiday to Durham would be longer than originally planned – creating greater economic impact
  • content on thisisdurham.com identified as being one of the top three factors that could influence a visit
